More than 50 schools in Wales have been hit by coronavirus in the last week alone, according to figures from local authorities across Wales.
At a number of schools, the new cases have forced both students and staff into self isolation.
It comes as more than two-thirds of Wales will be under under local lockdown restrictions by the middle of this week.

These are all the schools in Wales, by council area, that have been impacted by coronavirus in the last week (September 21-25):
Blaenau Gwent
Blaenau Gwent County Council did not respond directly to WalesOnline about cases of coronavirus at the county’s schools, however the following information was provided on its website for the week of September 21-25.
St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Brynmawr
A class was asked to self-isolate after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.
Ystruth Primary School, Blaina
The school has closed temporarily for two weeks due to the self-isolation status of both school and support service staff. They said this was not due to a significant increase in positive cases within the school.
Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg Welsh Medium Primary School, Nantyglo
A Reception/Year 1 class, along with pupils accessing home to school transport via Bus 5 (John’s Travel), have been asked to self-isolate after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19.
Bridgend
Brigend County Borough Council did not respond directly to WalesOnline about cases of coronavirus at the county’s schools.
Caerphilly
According to the Caerphilly Borough County Council website, there were 15 schools affected by coronavirus on September 25.
These include:

Cardiff
More than 20 schools in Cardiff were impacted by coronavirus during the past week. These include:
Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern Roath Park Primary Ninian Park Primary Ty Gwyn Special School Bryn Deri Primary Whitchurch High Llanishen Fach Primary Greenway Primary Mary Immaculate RC High Fitzalan High St Marys RC Primary Lansdowne Primary School Mount Stuart Primary Moorlands Primary Danescourt Primary St Albans Primary Albany Primary Oakfield Primary Hollies Primary Eastern High Windsor Clive Primary Cardiff West Community High School Severn Primary Carmarthenshire
A total of six schools in Carmarthenshire each recorded one case of coronavirus during the last week, according to Carmarthenshire County Council.
These include:
Burry Port Primary School Ysgol Pen Rhos, Llanelli Swiss Valley Primary School Llangennech Primary School Ysgol Y Strade, Llanelli Heol Goffa School, Llanelli Ceredigion
A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council confirmed there were no new cases of coronavirus recorded in schools in Ceredigion from September 21-25.
Conwy
According to Conwy County Borough Council, there were four schools each with one or more confirmed Covid-19 case during last week. These include:
Ysgol Aberconwy Ysgol Betws Y Coed Ysgol Nant Y Groes Ysgol John Bright Denbighshire
Denbighshire County Council did not respond directly to WalesOnline about cases of coronavirus at the county’s schools, however a number of incidents involving coronavirus were listed on its website. These include:
Prestatyn High School (A number of pupils have been told to self-isolate following one confirmed case) Denbigh High School (A number of pupils have neen told to self-isolate, due to a pupil showing symptoms after being in contact with a confirmed case) Ysgol Bryn Clwyd, Llandyrnog (Closed up to and including September 28 following a confirmed case) Flintshire
Flintshire County Council did not respond directly to WalesOnline about cases of coronavirus at the county’s schools.
Gwynedd
One school in Gwynedd was affected during the week of September 21-25, according to the council.
A bubble of seven children were required to self isolate at Ysgol Llanllyfni, a spokewoman confirmed.
Isle of Anglesey
At least one case of coronavirus has been confirmed in a school in Anglesey last week, according to the council’s website.
A young pupil attending Ysgol Gymuned Y Fali tested positive for coronavirus.
Parents and staff were informed on September 21 and issued with guidance provided by Public Health Wales.
Merthyr Tydfil
Nine schools in Merthyr Tydfil were affected by coronavirus cases during the week of September 21-25, according to the council. This includes the following schools:
Galon Uchaf – All children required to isolate until October 9 Plant Bach – All children required to isolate until October 8 Greenfield School – Class S3 have been required to isolate until October 6 Cyfarthfa High – Five classes of pupils required to self isolate until October 9, approximately half of Year 10 required to self isolate until October 5 Afon Taf High – Year 10 asked to self isolate until October 7 Ysgol Santes Tudfil – Reception class required to self isolate until October 5 Pantysgallog Primary School – All Nursery 1 children have been asked to self isolate until October 7 Gellifaelog – Year 4 required to self isolate until October 8 Abercanaid Community – Explorers 1 asked to isolate until October 8 Monmouthshire
Monmouthshire County Council did not respond directly to WalesOnline about cases of coronavirus at the county’s schools.
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
Two schools in Neath Port Talbot have recorded positive cases of coronavirus in the last week, including:
Cwm Brombil Comprehensive School in Margam – One positive Case Ysgol Hendrefelin in Bryncoch, Neath – Four positive cases Newport City Council
Newport City Council told WalesOnline there were three schools affected by coronavirus during the period of September 21-25.
These included:
Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd (Year 2) Millbrook (Year 1) Crindau (Year 5) Pembrokeshire County Council
Pembrokeshire County Council confirmed there were no cases of coronavirus recorded at its schools during the week of September 21-25.
Powys
Three schools under Powys County Council have been affected by coronavirus during the week of September 21-25.
They include:
An early years setting Llanfaes Camau, Brecon (Closed September 21 after three members of staff tested positive) Llanbedr Church in Wales School (Closed September 24 after a member of the school tested positive. Twenty-two pupils and three staff are self-isolating) Llanidloes High School (One case confirmed on September 25. No details of numbers self-isolating yet) Rhondda Cynon Taf
One case of the virus was confirmed in a pupil attending Ysgol Gymuned Y Fali.
Parents and staff were informed on September 21 and issued with guidance provided by Public Health Wales.
NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect has been informed of the confirmed case and relevant pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.
Swansea
Seven schools in Swansea were affected by cases of coronavirus in the last week. These included:
Waun Wen Primary – One case confirmed with 52 pupils and seven staff self-isolating YGG Llwynderw – One case confirmed with 52 pupils and eight staff self-isolating YGG Tan-y-lan – One case confirmed with 35 pupils and 4 staff self-isolating St Thomas Primary – One case confirmed with 30 pupils and 3 staff self-isolating Bishopston Comprehensive – Two cases confirmed with 230 pupils in Year 10 and 224 in Year 8 self-isolating Pontarddulais Comprehensive – One case confirmed with 168 pupils in Year 11 self-isolating Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive – One case confirmed with 157 pupils in Year 10 self-isolating Vale of Glamorgan
Seven schools were affected in the Vale of Glamorgan area, according to the council. They include:
Palmerston Primary School (Three members of teaching staff self-isolating) Ysgol St Baruc (One member of teaching staff, 19 nursery pupils and 30 reception pupils self-isolating) Oak Field Primary School (34 pupils and seven members of staff self-isolating) Ysgol y Deri (A group of pupils told to self-isolate as a precaution) Whitmore High School (39 pupils self-isolating) Jennar Park Primary School (18 reception pupils, 17 Year 3 pupils and seven members of staff self-isolating) High Street Primary School (Six children and five members of staff self-isolating) Torfaen
